Welcome!

Welcome to my blog. I have decided to start a blog about my life playing soccer with cerebral palsy because I have been so inspired with other people and their stories, and because I have felt the need to share my story with other people going through the same thing as me. Most of this blog will be my everyday thoughts and experiences through high school and soccer.

My Background:

I was born in Portland, Oregon on May 4th 1996. I was born about 6 weeks early and only weighed about 3 1/2 pounds. One the second day of my life a doctor told my parents that there was something wrong with me. They told my parents that a brain bleed (stroke) either before birth or shortly after my birth. The doctors gave told my parents that I had something called cerebral palsy, officially later diagnosed as mild left hemiplegia. They told my parents that I might never walk or even talk. At 16 months old is when I started to prove the doctors they were WAY wrong. I took my first steps across my kitchen floor! I can’t even imagine how happy my mom was at that time! As the years went on I continued to show improvement and by the age of 4 my parent decided that I should try a sport. So they signed me up for a preschool soccer camp. It was only for a months but I loved it so much that when kindergarten came around, even though my parents probably had concerns weather I could keep up, they signed me up for yet another year of soccer. In the early years of my soccer career I had to wear a brace on my left leg because of my cerebral palsy and they therapy I had to go through. Despite the brace and the fact that when I started to get older, I found it harder to keep up, I never lost passion for the game and it even began to become stronger and stronger. I even ended up playing on the same club team with the same coach for 8 whole years!!!! (If I ever go anywhere with this soccer thing, my youth coach deserves 99.9999% of the credit). In 9th grade, my freshman year in high school, I was not fit and not ready for the pace of high school soccer never the less way, WAY to intimidated for tryouts, so I just signed up for club co-ed soccer, let’s just say their notorious for being not that good or not passionate enough for the game. That was my only problem; the level was ok for me, but not the passion for the sport. It was weak!  Not to mention I had a pretty bad coach who did not know what he was doing at all! I don’t want to go into too much detail about co-ed soccer. That will be in another post, but this leads me to where I am now, play on a high school team soccer. My whole purpose for this blog is to share my experience and struggles playing high school soccer with cerebral palsy. This was just a little bit of my background story so far. More posts are to come sharing my stories of how I got here and what’s going on in my life right now and what is to come in the future :)

And Now For Some Fun:

  2. Hi Haley.

Glad to see your passion for the game is developing and getting stronger.

Also it's good your parents saw your potential and wanted you to have fun when you were 4, then you discovered this great game.

Would love to hear about your club games over the year.
